EFMD Programme Accreditation Overview

EFMD Programme Accreditation PROCESS

The EFMD programme accreditation process for initial accreditation will typically require 2 years. The re-accreditation process is shorter.

Enquiry

Non-binding preliminary advice is offered to the management of your institution and programme via an initial conversation with the Director or Associate Director of EFMD Programme Accreditation. Following the initial conversation, the institution may be invited to complete a Draft Datasheet using EFMD’s Online Data Collection System, OX.

Formal application for entry

In order to enter the EFMD Programme Accreditation process, the institution will be invited to send an Application Form to the EFMD Programme Accreditation Office and to submit a revised Draft Datasheet via OX.

Online briefing visit

The Online Briefing Visit (OBV) is conducted by the EFMD Programme Accreditation Director or Associate Director in order to assess the eligibility of the Programme. The OBV is compulsory for all initial applications except if the institution already has another programme accredited or holds EQUIS accreditation. During the OBV, the EFMD Programme Accreditation expert may suggest an advisory service before moving to the application for eligibility stage.

Application for eligibility

The institution applies for eligibility by submitting the final Datasheet in OX four weeks in advance of the target EFMD Programme Accreditation Committee meeting. An OBV report (and Advisory Report, if used) will also be submitted to the Committee by the EFMD Programme Accreditation Office.

The eligibility decision

The EFMD Programme Accreditation Committee declares applicant programme(s) eligible if the eligibility criteria are complied with.

Self-assessment

After an institution is declared eligible to enter the EFMD Programme Accreditation process, it should carry out an extensive self-evaluation. The Self-Assessment Report should cover the five chapters of the Standards and Criteria document. In certain cases, an advisor may be appointed to help the institution address any eligibility reservations and to prepare the Self-Assessment Report before the Peer Review Visit. At the end of the advisory phase, the advisor will provide an assessment evaluation.

Peer review visit

An international team of four peer reviewers, including one corporate representative, will then visit the institution to assess the programme(s) in terms of the EFMD Programme Accreditation standards and to draw up recommendations for future progress.

The peer review report sets out the team’s final assessment of the programme(s) against the EFMD Programme Accreditation Board quality criteria, together with its recommendation to the Accreditation Board regarding accreditation.

Accreditation

With the formal agreement of the institution, the peer review report is submitted to the Accreditation Board for a decision on accreditation. The outcome will be 5-year accreditation, 3-year accreditation or no accreditation.

Continuous improvement following accreditation

All institutions within the EFMD Programme Accreditation system are required to actively pursue a development plan for the accredited programme(s), agreed with the EFMD Programme Accreditation Office in the case of a 5-year accreditation or determined by the Accreditation Board in the case of a 3-year accreditation.

Re-accreditation

An institution that wishes to maintain its accreditation must enter a process of re-accreditation before expiry of the three- or five-year period.
